The countdown to the epic boxing extravaganza scheduled for

the Lebanon House in Accra on August 27 is down to just a week with hot

prospect Frederick Lawson the latest to pledge victory for the nation against

Nigerian Kolawole Abimbola in an international welterweight contest over 10

rounds.

Lawson, the new kid on the block famously called Okumka but

who also relishes Liberator because “I am here to liberate Ghana boxing. I’ve

already started, it’s just began and I promise to do more,” takes on Abimbola

on the undercard of the ‘Night of Rivalry’ bill put together by Landmark.

Lawson, (7-0, 6 KOs) who has been tipped by local boxing

connoisseurs since his amateur days to bring world glory to Ghana, tells ALL

SPORTS he has the mission to, like legends Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey before

him, also win a world title.

Abimbola, he says is one of the opponents he needs

as stepping stone to fulfil those ambitions.

“I’m ready, actually I’m prepared anytime. I want to do my

best for Ghana like the Azumahs, Ike Quarteys and the rest, to also win a world

title. I am telling Ghanaians that I always promise them victory and I will not

let them down,” Lawson told ALL SPORTS.

The ‘Night of Rivalry’ comes alive at the Lebanon House in

the heart of Accra next week Saturday with a total of eight bouts headlined by

the Commonwealth Super Flyweight contest between Ghanaian Cobbinah Johnson and

Yaqub Kareem of Nigeria.

Ring side goes for GH?10 and the popular stand GH?5 with

the gates opening at 6pm.
