Napoleon Tagoe, former Cruiser-weight Champion has thrown a challenge to the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to provide him the necessary resources to enable him to unearth many experienced boxers across the country.

Tagoe, who runs the Willpower Boxing Gym told the GNA Sports in Accra on Monday that, he has observed with great concern the depreciating number and few quality boxers in the country and he is of the firm conviction that given the necessary support he would be able to help unearth enough talents who would be potential world beaters in the near future.

“As at now we can boast of only 300 boxers in both amateur and professional ranks and this is not good for the sport and the nation as a whole”. He noted.

Asked how he would be able to achieve that, Tagoe told the GNA Sports he would first embark on a nation-wide exercise to develop young men who have interest in coaching.

“I would take them through the 28 fundamentals of boxing and the necessary skills they need to be good coaches.

“After such a start, the coaches would then be sent across the country to organize talent hunt activities, under my supervision so we can identify talents and groom them for the future.” He stated.

Tagoe said there are many young men on the streets who have the potential to become great boxers but without the necessary platform, they will not realize their dreams of becoming world champions.

The former champion said the nation must be serious with talent-hunt, adding that it would reduce the number of youth on streets undertaking odd jobs in the urban centres of the country.

According to Tagoe, he has the technical know-how to help unearth talents and all he needs is the resources to train people and appealed to the authorities to help him achieve the needed targets.**
