Accra, July 13, GNA - The Ghana-Nigeria sports rivalry will be rekindled on Friday when the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) team face a select-team from Nigeria in an international amateur boxing contest at the Prisons Canteen, Cantonment in Accra. The one-day contest put together by GAABA and their Nigerian counterparts - Joint Amateur Boxing (JAB) team is aimed at promoting boxing and enhancing co-operation between the two countries. Gideon Quartey, Acting Chairman of GAABA told GNA Sports on Wednesday that all the necessary arrangements have been put together for the successful hosting of the championship after the Nigerian team finally breezed into town on Tuesday.

He explained that the Association's team was selected based on the performance of the boxers at the ongoing third edition of the GAABA League.

Mr Quartey mentioned that the championship will consist of seven bouts with the Lightweight clash between Michael Offei Dodoo of Attoh Quarshie Gym and Kazeen Saka of the JAB team as the pick of the pack. Dodoo is yet to loose any of his fights this term after beginning on an impressive note with victories over all opponents including that of the Haringey Police and Community team from the United Kingdom who visited GAABA last February.

In the flyweight division, Jessy Lartey will face Wasiu Amosu, while Raphael Mensah battles out Tajudeen Amusa in the Bantamweight division.

Isaac Sackey will slug it out against Idris Badmus of the Nigerian team in a Featherweight clash while the hard-hitting Benjamin Lamptey contends with Abiodum Mustapha in the Light welterweight division. Welterweight Ebenezer Sowah will face Ibrahim Kodin while Charles Azumah fists up against Monsuru Akanji of the Nigerian team. The championship will be heralded by a press conference on Friday morning at the 'Chic "n" Lick' Restaurant at Labadi with representatives of both teams to be in attendance. 16 July 08
