Returnee national team hitman, Asamoah Gyan is beaming with confidence that investing in boxing promotion and management will not affect his professional career as a footballer.
Gyan received his license from the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) barely two weeks ago to become the latest promoter and manager in the fistic sport in this country.
The Al Ain top marksman then formally launched his BabyJet Promotions last week, following it up the next day with the signing of contract between Commonwealth champion George Ashie and former IBF Intercontinental champion Emmanuel Tagoe for the headline bout for their maiden promotion billed for November when the footballer will be in town to supervise.
But answering enquiries if the diversion into another sport won’t affect his professional career, Gyan shrugged it aside insisting that he has been a boxing fan all his life and that he sees his entrance into the fistic sports as his social responsibility to rescue what was once a big sport in this country.
“Not at all, I’m somebody who is dedicated to my game for example when I’m on the pitch, I know whom to pass to and I know what to do. I know and love my football, that’s what I said I will do so nothing can stop me,” Asamoah confidently.
The man who is also a part-time musician explained further his love for the pugilist sport: “I have passion for boxing. After training, anytime I’m home relaxing, I watch boxing.
“I can even say things in boxing that not even the boxers can know. I understand the game, Floyd Maywether is my idol and the only sportsman whose autograph I will love to get.
Gyan who is back to the Black Stars after a 5-month hiatus, continued: “I am a Ghanaian, I want to help my community, I want to help my country because when I come on holidays it’s like no boxing is going on. “Ghana got a lot of great boxers previously like Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, Joshua Clottey and the rest, so we need to push the young ones coming up. As a Ghanaian I need to encourage the young ones coming up and those who want to achieve their aim.”Credit:
