Accra, Oct 12, GNA - Welterweight prodigy, Habib Ahmed gave boxing fans some hope of an upcoming world champion in the making when he defeated gym colleague, Emmanuel Danso in the Light heavyweight contest during the Week 20 of the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) League over the weekend.
The duo, products of the Wisdom Gym and members of the National Amateur Boxing team, the Black Bombers treated patrons of the sport to some high level of boxing artistry backed by their international exposure.
Habib had move up in weight to face Danso, but gave the latter a good run in the closely fought encounter. Habib, a participant at the African qualifiers for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, held in Namibia last March in the end reigned supreme with a split decision over the well-built, Danso, also a semi-finalist at the 2007 All Africa Games. In other bouts of the night, Giblim Ahmed also of Wisdom Gym cruised past Ebenezer Tetteh of Sonia Gym via a unanimous win in their Middleweight clash.
Debutant, Nii Tackie Annan of Sonia Gym was humbled by Bright Ayala of Wisdom Gym via a majority decision just as Raphael Mensah, also of Wisdom Gym beat Raymond Commey of Square Deal courtesy a similar decision.
