Nigeria’s Helen Joseph vows to claim
IBF female title in Accra August 25
Nigerian female boxer Helen Joseph says she is ready and
fired up to claim the vacant IBF Female Featherweight belt when she faces
Dahianna Santana of the Dominican Republic in Ghana on August 25.
Joseph, 11-1-1,
fights the vastly experienced Santana (29-6) in the headliner of Ghanaian
syndicate GoldenMike Promotions and their parent company Golden Concepts’ bill
scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Nigerian who is virtually based in Ghana training under
Kofi Darku Ricketts, is confident of victory.
“I know I will beat Santana despite her intimidating record.
She has been beating others but she will meet her waterloo when she gets in the
ring with me. My coaches have been working on me and I promise my teeming Nigerian
fans to expect victory. I will also present the belt to the governor of my
state when I win it,” the River State born Helen Joseph told the Nigerian
newspaper PM News Weekend at a press conference to announce the fight to
Nigerians last week.
Remi Aboderin, Secretary General of the Nigeria Boxing Board
off Control, pledged their full support for Helen Joseph even as she will fight
in Ghana.
Mr. Aboderin said: “The NBB of C is ready to Helen all
necessary support she needs to become a world champion. Of course, it will be a
plus for the board and the entire country if a Nigerian boxer becomes a world
champion.”
Meanwhile, Mike Tetteh, GoldenMike Promotions CEO Mike
Tetteh announces that the other bouts on the August 25 bill will soon be made
public after signing of all fight contracts.Credit:
