Ike Quartey Earns Azumah Praise

Former world featherweight champion and world boxing Hall of Famer, Professor Azumah Nelson after witnessing Ike Ouartey?s comeback fight Friday night at ring side has praised the former champion.

The former super featherweight world champion told Joy Sports that Quartey showed a lot of grit and stamina, for someone who had been out of the sport for four years.


Ike Quartey himself was gracious in victory towards his American opponent and promised a world title belt in 16 months.


Many people who thronged the Azumah Nelson Sports complex Friday night to witness ?the great comeback? told Joy Sports after the fight that Ike was indeed ready for the big stage.

Ike Bazooka Quartey?s made a triumphant return to the ring after a four-year sabbatical.


Fighting his first ever bout as a middleweight, Ike Quartey looked very quick and controlled the fight till he knocked out his American opponent in the 8th round of their scheduled 10 round contest.


Quartey who now boast a fight record of 32 victories, 2 losses and 1 draw became the first man to knock out the resolute Clint McNeill, who lost to Hector Camacho on a points decision last July.
