Ghanaian boxer Isaac Dogboe has touched down in Ghana following his title loss to Mexico’s Emmanuel Navarette.

The 24-year-old was in action earlier this month but unfortunately failed to successfully defend his World Boxing Organization super bantamweight title. It was the first professional loss of Dogboe’s career after his Mexican opponent recorded a unanimous victory after 12 rounds.

Two of the judges scored the bout 116-112 and a third making it 115-113 – all in favour of Emmanuel Navarette. Despite the disappointment of losing for the first time, Dogboe returned to Ghana on Thursday and was given a warm welcome.

The young boxer and his team touched down late Thursday and were greeted by a huge crowd, including boxing legend Azumah Nelson. Azumah Nelson gave Dogboe a warm hug, with the pair going on to exchange pleasantries. Speaking to the media, Dogboe said he has learned his lessons and will make sure he doesn’t repeat his mistakes in future bouts.

“Concerning the fight, we’ve learned great lessons. We were caught up in a manner that we need to go back and re-examine what went wrong and that’s the most important thing. Now, we’ll stick to the old ways that we were doing. We’ll go with hard work and everything will be okay,” he stated.

Meanwhile, his father, Paul Dogboe, has confirmed that a rematch with Navarette will happen in May 2019.
