Craig Docherty successfully retained his Commonwealth super-featherweight title with a six-round stoppage over Kpakpo Allotey in Glasgow on Thursday.
The Scotsman had to withstand some early punishment from the Ghanaian, who came into the ring lively from looking sharp with his counter-attacks.
However, Docherty composed himself as the rounds went on - although it was something of a surprise when referee John Keane ended the fight in the sixth round.
Keane looked into the Ghanaian's eyes after an exchange with Docherty and judged him unfit to carry on.
Docherty began the fight with a flurry of bodyshots, pinning his opponent against the ropes - but both boxers looked sharp.
The second round saw the African looking sharper, catching Docherty with some impressive punches although the Scot finished the round slightly the stronger.
Allotey started the third round in terrific fashion unleashing lefts and rights, which were getting through Doherty's guard - and the home crowd fell silent knowing their favourite had a genuine challenge on his hands.
Docherty seemed to have lost a little confidence by the start of the fourth round, but rallied well in the later stages, pinning the African against the ropes.
The next round again was close with both fighters finding their targets at times but Docherty's industry roused the home crowd before Keane had a quick check of the African's eyes.
Allotey was allowed to start the sixth round - but after being caught by a few Docherty punches the referee stepped in and stopped the fight leaving an ecstatic Docherty to take the applause of his fans.
The Scot said afterwards: "I was concentrating on the job, keeping the pressure on - and everything came off.
"I'm coming on as a person and an athlete all the time - and I'll keep going.
"It was emotional walking to the ring - I had a hell of a lump in my throat - but I overcame it and hopefully put on a good show for the fans."
Promoter Tommy Gilmour added on Sky Sports: "He's number one for the British and European championships.
"Tonight's performance showed great maturity - it's the best I've seen in the four or five years I've managed him.
"He's had a couple of injuries but he was so determined - no matter what pain he suffered.
"I'm so chuffed and I'd like to see him back in the ring as quickly as possible."
