Accra, Jan. 25, GNA - Fredrick Lawson, three time African
Boxing Championship medalist has joined the professional ranks
after six years in the amateur division. The 22 year old boxer is expected to compete for honours in
the Welterweight division. Lawson who announced his decision to join the paid ranks on
Tuesday, will be under the management of Alhaji Sally Inusah. The boxer touted as one of the most promising world title
prospects in Ghana, appended his signature to a two year
renewable contract with Alhaji Inusah, under which his
professional career will be handled by the latter. Under the contract, Lawson will receive managerial direction,
monthly stipends and allowances as well as other benefits that will
enhance his professional career. The manager will also see to organization of bouts for the
boxer both in and outside the country. Alhaji Inusah said his decision to manage the boxer was
influenced by his amazing talents, adding that the boxer has over
the years demonstrated that he was capable of making it on a
higher pedestal. He also noted that he was motivated by his love and passion
for boxing and is convinced that there was the need to invest in
young and budding talents to project the image of Ghana. Alhaji Inusah expressed the hope that the boxer will become a
world champion in the near future and advised him to be focused,
disciplined and committed to his training and goals of becoming a
world champion. Lawson expressed appreciation to the manager for providing
him with the opportunity to exploit his talent adding that he will
make the best out of the deal. According to the boxer, Alhaji Inusah's decision to manage
him will provide him the opportunity to take his career to greater
heights. Lawson said he will work hard to justify the confidence and
investments made in him by the manager adding that he will step
up his training regimen in order to meet the challenges of the
professional ranks. "I know it is going to be more difficult in the professional ranks
but with hard work, discipline, commitment and dedication, I will
survive." He stated. Lawson won a gold medal in the 2007 African Boxing
Championship and silver in the 2008 and 2009 Championships. He has been a key member of the nation amateur boxing team,
the Black Bombers since 2006 and is among the few boxers who
have the potential to make it to the world level.
