Fireworks and an action-packed bout awaits fight fans in Accra when George Ashie clashes with Abdul Malik Jabir for the Ghana Lightweight belt over 12 rounds on July 30 at the Lebanon House in the heart of the capital in the headliner of the ‘Fight of Destiny’ boxing extravaganza.
Ashie, 20-3-1 (13 KOs), previously held the UBC Super Featherweight world title and wants victory against the experienced Malik Jabir (15-7, 12 KOs), to stake up his claim for a shot at any of the recognized world titles.
*SportsInGhana.com* understood the camp of George Ashie popularly called Red Tiger want to make their boxer so ready for July 30, they had planned a training camp in Australia ahead of the fight. But after failing to travel as scheduled last weekend, it remains unclear if they can finally make the trip come this weekend.
But Malik Jabir remains unruffled, the man known as Bukom Snake has already pitched camp at Kokrobite (Lanma) near Accra training fervently for the make or break fight that he says will determine the future of his career.
The ‘Fight of Destiny is put together by Ghanaian outfit Box Office Sports Promotions and Classic Vision Boxing Syndicate in association with Gunther Fishgold’s Capital City Boxing of New York, USA and has a total of eight bouts lined up for the night of July 30 to whet the appetite of fight fans expected to throng the Lebanon House in Tudu, Accra.
According to a press release signed by Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye, CEO/ Promoter, Box Office Sports, the co-main bout of the night of Fight of Destiny is a 12 round WBO Africa Middleweight interim championship featuring Ghana’s Laatekwei Hammond against Sunday King Hammer of Nigeria and a National Super Bantamweight contest between Raymond Commey and Isaac Nettey, also over 12 rounds.
Supporting bouts features Prosper Ankrah against Michael Barnor for the Ghana Bantamweight title over 12 rounds, 10 round Interim National Lightweight contest between Samuel Kotey Neequaye and Oko Laryea and a Super Featherweight contest between Emmanuel Addo and Odarlai Lamptey scheduled for 8 rounds.
Others are a Lightweight championship over 8 rounds featuring Osumanu Akaba and a yet to be announced opponent as well as Bilal Mohammed in Lightweight contest over 6 rounds against a yet to be announce opponent.
