Maximum security for Homowo Bonanza

Accra, Aug. 9, GNA - Napoleon Tagoe, Founder of Will Power Boxing Promotions and the main promoter for Sunday's Homowo Boxing Bonanza has assured the media and the general public of an incident-free event on the pugilist night.

The championship scheduled for Mantse Agbonaa at James Town, Accra on August 12 is to climax this year's Homowo festival, which is celebrated annually by the people of Accra and Gas.

Tagoe, a former World Boxing Council (WBC) International Light heavyweight champion said this at a Press Conference on Thursday in reaction to some security concerns raised by sections of the media. Some members of the media blamed the organizers of inadequate security at last week's World Boxing Association (WBA) event, which led to some people losing properties and damaged devices.

Tagoe, however in a swift reaction said his outfit has made the necessary arrangements regarding security this time round with the support and cooperation of the security services in his quest to organize an incident-free event.

There has been security concerns with regards to the festival itself but the former Light heavyweight champion has allayed those fears, saying, "There is no cause for alarm".

Mr Moses Foh-Amoaning, Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) pledged his outfit's support to the event to make it a memorable one to befit the festive occasion.

Mr Samuel Anane, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Anasco Scales and Engineering Services Limited, Co-Sponsors of the event said his outfit's decision to support the event was part of their quota towards the development of boxing in the country.

He assured that future events would be given the needed attention in their quest to take boxing to its pedestal.

The main bout for the event is the National Featherweight title bout between Malik Jabir and Emmanuel Tagoe.

Other bouts on the bill are Thomas Okaita Aryetey versus Odalai Lamptey in a Featherweight Contest whilst Joseph Laryea squares off against Kuma Doe in the National and West Africa Boxing Union (WABU) championship eliminator.

Samuel Amoaku will take on Daniel Tindana in an eight round Lightweight contest just as Albert Mensah battles Kwame Achar in the same category.

Joshua Okine will sort things out with Paul Achab in a Super Welterweight 10 rounder while Herbert Quartey rounds it up against Kwaja Dodoo in an eight round Super Bantam-weight contest.
