Promoters Union unhappy with GBA

Accra, Feb 23, GNA - The Boxing Promoters and Managers Union of Ghana have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) over the manner it handled the controversy between Mr Al Hamilton and Raymond Narh, the National Super Featherweight Champion.

A statement signed by Mr K. Reg Hansen-Thompson, President of the Managers' Union made available to the GNA Sports said Mr Hamilton who is a member of the union has not been treated fairly by the GBA.

According to the Union, the misunderstanding that arose between Mr Hamilton and Narh, could have been settled by the GBA amicably, without resorting to any court action as directed by the authority.

"We are at a loss as to why the GBA should compel Hamilton to go to the courts when the matter could have been settled amicably by the GBA" the statement added.

The statement said the way and manner Hamilton was treated coupled with the style of administration of the GBA have made things extremely difficult for local promoters and managers to source for foreign investments.

The statement said boxing promoters and managers have suffered series of rough tactics in their dealings with the GBA but have always acknowledged the usefulness of the authority in the industry and kept mute over issues in the interest of the sport. "Much as we are sad at the turn of events, the clarion call for the Golden Age of Business behooves on us all not to sit on the fence and watch the situation degenerate into something else", the statement added.

The Union however called on the GBA to act swiftly by cleaning up its stable before things got out of hand and urged all stakeholders to withdraw all their cases from the courts for amicable settlement. Mr Hamilton, a Briton was the manager and promoter of Narh when he later turned professional but they separated in the middle of last year as a result of a some misunderstandings.
