Former President Jerry John Rawlings has wished Isaac ‘The Royal Storm’ Dogboe good luck as he mounts the ring tonight to defend his junior featherweight title for the second time against Mexican Emanuel Navarrete.
The fight to take place at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York will serve as the co-feature of the previously announced lightweight world title unification bout between pound-for-pound king Vasiliy Lomachenko and Jose Pedraza on the Top Rank Boxing.
In a tweet ahead of the fight, the former president tweeted to urge the young boxer who is arguably Ghana’s biggest export, to victory.
“Tonight Ghana, Africa and millions across the world will be strongly behind you as you enter the ring. Your tact, ferocity and fearlessness should be in full force as you come against a tried and tested Mexican,” Mr. Rawlings said.
He added: “I join all your compatriots in wishing you great victory”.
Dogboe has assassinated every Mexican boxer that has been put before him in the ring including Alejandro Ochoa, Cesar Juarez and former champion Jessie Magdaleno to become WBO’s sole champion at super bantamweight.
Isaac Dogboe’s record stands at 20 fights without a loss with 14 Kos at just a tender age of 24.
His latest win was against Japanese Hidenori Otake in Glendale, Arizona on August 25.
Navarrete at age 23 boast a record of 25 fights with one loss and 22 Kos. He has won 20 fights in a row since a four-round decision loss in 2012 but in Dogboe, he will be facing by far his most daunting task.
Dogboe is one boxer to keep an eye on, after managing to eat into the minds of boxing fans worldwide with his shocking upset of Jessie Magdaleno.
Wounded Navarrete poses as another threat from Mexico looking to stop Dogboe from extending his record of the number of Mexicans he has assassinated.
