Richard Commey is a step closer to earning a world title fight after breaking into the top 10 of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) ratings.
Commey is now ranked 10th in the world – a position he would have attained even if he was defeated in his recent fight against South African Thompson Mokwana.
The UK-based Ghanaian boxer however handed a 7th round knockout to the South African to retain his Commonwealth title and also, put a gloss on his enhanced rating.
Previously ranked 12th, Commey is now only behind the likes of Takahiro Ao of Japan #9, Juan Diaz of the USA #8, Miguel Vazquez of Mexico #7, Rances Barthelemy of Cuba #6, Ivan Redkach of Ukraine #5, Kevin Mitchell of UK #4 (who relinquished his I/C title to avoid meeting Richard last year) and Emiliano Marsili of Italy #2.
Commey is likely to draw his next opponent from the boxers rated above him before a hopeful world title shot against current champion Mickey Bey.
