Boxer Richard Commey has told TheAfricanDream.net in an interview that he has been ready to fight Yardley Cruz even before he knew Cruz was going to be his next opponent. "I have been thirsting for a fight since 3 months, now am happy I can finally quench that thirst," said the Ghanaian boxer.

Commey is scheduled to walk into the ring with Mexican boxer Cruz on August 4, 2018, in a warm-up fight at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum at Uniondale in New York (NY).

With 26 wins (23KOs) of 28 fights and 2 losses, Commey looks very good on paper compared to his opponent's 24 wins (14KOs), 10 losses.

"Let me humbly remind you that I am here to obliterate all my opponents, bearing in mind my middle name Oblittey," the Ghanaian boxer said to TheAfricanDream.net in a soft voice. He assured his fans that "I'm gonna be a world champion before 2018, ends so keep on praying for me."

His readiness to take a punch at the world championship belt-holder was evidenced when Commey watched current champion Mikey Garcia beat Robert Easter Jr. to unify the World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight titles on July 29, 2018, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Both boxers are from the United States (US).

"Now that I know I am fighting Garcia next, I just have to finish my business with Cruz and get ready for the next task," said Commey, the number one contender to the IBF lightweight belt in his quest to become an IBF world champion.

Ranked world number 7 in the lightweight division, Commey disclosed that "every fight in my career is very important. This tune-up with Cruz will allow me to do what I have been working on in Brooklyn, NY with my trainers Andre Rozier and Gary Stark. My last fight in March this year ended in a win via a 6th round TKO, I want to keep the streak going with Cruz."

Headline fights before the 10-round Commey-Cruz encounter include former 147-pound world champions Andre Berto and Devon Alexander's 12-round face-off plus former world champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin's battle with 168-pound contender J’Leon Love, among other exciting boxing bouts.

TGB Promotions, DiBella Entertainment, and Mayweather Promotions are promoting the fights which will be broadcast live in primetime on FOX and FOX Deportes in the US.
