South Korea’s Lee Kyu Suk stops Ghana’s Francis Gakpetor in one

Lee Kyu Suk couldn’t have asked for a better pro debut. The transplanted South Korean made short work of Ghana’s Francis Gakpetor, scoring a first round TKO in their welterweight contest at the Seconds Out Gym in Accra last Saturday night.

Suk has settled quickly into life living in Ghana—he certainly looked comfortable in the ring, dominating from the opening bell. Gakpetor was on the receiving end of a slew of uppercuts, jabs, and seemingly everything else. The onslaught forced referee Roger Barnor little choice but to halt the action barely two minutes in on the All for One Sports Promotions 13-fight bill.

Suk, who is in Ghana on a six-month training tour, is hoping to continue to hone his skills in pursuit of success in the fistic sport.

“I am very happy,” said the excited Korean afterward to Bukomboxingnews.com. “I think I put in a good performance and deserve the victory.

I am excited with the way things have started for me in Ghana. I am working with a very good coach (Theophilus Edwin Addo) and I am learning a lot which I displayed here tonight. Now I have to get back to training and prepare for my next fight. This is just the beginning,” he added.

Opponent Gakpetor was gracious in defeat but would now like a rematch in Asia.

“I lost but I’m not disappointed because this is normal in boxing. All the best fighters and world champions have lost before,” Gakpetor said.

“I know I can beat him so I am calling for a rematch. I will go back and train harder and if I get the chance to fight him again I will beat him. If he likes let’s go and fight in his country. I will still beat him.”
