Tijani to explode tonight

For the 12 combatants expected to mount the ring this evening at the Globe Cinema, the day of reckoning may have approached far too early than can be for their comfort.

Between this evening and tomorrow's dawn, battles of various shapes and magnitudes will be witnessed from the field of potential world-beaters as they gear up for honours in their various weight classes.

Topping the six-bout bill, put together by Ambition and Nii Armah Promotion Syndicate, is the international super lightweight clash between the pride of the armed forces, Moro Tijani, and Sunday Adayi of Nigeria.

Ghana and Nigeria have not been the best of "friends" in Sporting, circles, both countries always fighting it out as hard as possible whenever duty has called.

In tonight's event, the Ghanaian soldier and his Nigerian counterpart will rekindle that old rivalry, with the possibility of taking it to an entirely different level. Tijani enters the ring with the advantage of having the home crowd behind him, beside his vast experience and an ultimate ambition of tackling a world title fight in the nearest future.

But that makes Sunday no underdog since, by his mere courage to sign up for the fight, he has displayed a quality capable and equal to the task ahead. And with his almost unknown background, he may possess a weapon that may throw a stick into the wheels of the Ghanaian's ride. An interesting challenge is anticipated as masculine powers engage each other on stage.

Next in attraction is the national and West Africa super flyweight championship bout as Sumaila Badu stakes his belt against Asamoah Wilson (Mawushito).

This is one fight that also has the capacity to produce an explosive but yet entertaining showpiece with the likelihood of giving us a new king in that weight class. In other bouts, "King Kong" Joseph Agbeko will meet Amies Kubuza, a.k.a. Black Fire of the Congo D. R in a ten-round international bantamweight contest, while Osumanu "Black Hawk" Adama takes on Congo D.R's Sethgbe Maturin in another ten-round contest in the international super welterweight.

Welterweights Philip "Sweet Pea" Kotey and "Mr. Doctor” Joe Coffie will be at each other's throat in a six-round action, while the fight between Mohammed "Take Punch" Billal and Alex Brew (Wild) concludes the bill. Rates: ring side - ?50,000, 2nd ring side - ?30,000 and popular stand - ?10,000.
