Accra Technical University (ATU) has clinched a straight win over University of Education-Wnneba (UEW) in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
ATU beat UEW via a 49-28 win in a replay of the 2011 UPAC Final game ATU, then Accra Polytechnic, beat UEW to lift the first UPAC Championship.
The two-time Champions survived an early scare when Small Forward Zakari Alhassan exited the game after falling to the court without any player in close proximity.
Veterans Suleman Abubakar and Abdul Mutaleeb Alhassan led ATU’s charge with Abubakar dominating the paint as usual and Alhassan benefitting off runaway layups.
Point Guard Frederick Adu-Twum chipped in crucial points with his delightful drives to the basket and deft passing.
UEW trailed 16-31 at the end of the first half with lead Guard Jeffrey Djimatey heavily marshaled by Accra Technical.
This is UEW’s first appearance in the knockout phase of the competition since losing to ATU in 2011; its’ return ended in a 21 point loss.
