Experienced boxing enthusiast, manager and administrator, Yoofi Boham insists the time is right for him to ascend to the high office of Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and is urging delegates to Thursday’s GBA Congress to elect him to the position. Mr. Boham boasts over 30 years experience in Ghanaian boxing and famously handled former world champion, Ike ‘Bazooka’ Quartey and 1998 Commonwealth Games gold medalist cum Sydney 2000 Olympian, Raymond Narh in an avowed dedication to the development and promotion of the fistic sport in this country.
Currently also the Greater Accra Regional Kickboxing Association Vice President, Mr. Boham says the time is right for experienced men like himself to be given the mantle to lead Ghana boxing because they are in the best position to lead a renaissance of the sport in this country. “I want to help restructure boxing, try to raise the fallen sport. Boxing has fallen deep, deep down and it’s about time people with knowledge and experience take over to help revive it. Boxing has always been close to my heart and I’ve worked within the game in Ghana for a long time,” Yoofi Boham explained to www.sportsinghana.com exclusively. He continued: “A boxing arena is very needed and I remember when Nii Quaye Mensah was the GBA Chairman, we drew a plan for that. Nii Quaye Mensah is dead now but I’m sure the drawing is there so I’m trying to find it. Another thing is land for the project and we’ll try to get it through the Sports Ministry so that we can begin work.”
He added: “Infrastructure is also important, we have to work to get equipment for the gyms to buy. Equipment should be available for the gyms and boxers to buy at affordable prices. With good training facilities, we can get our boxers recognized and exposed on the international scene.”
Mr. Boham also reveals that former boxers and indeed all boxing stakeholders will not be left out in the running of the sport professionally in this country.
“Old boxers won’t be left out, we’ll set up some relief fund for them and also get them organized so that they can fight for their causes,” he said.
