Ghana’s Senior Minister, Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, has charged researchers in the country to ensure that they contribute their quota to the development of the nation by producing timely research results.

Speaking at the 60th-anniversary celebration of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Accra, Mr Osafo-Maafo said the researchers ought to do more, as the government awaits parliamentary approval of Cabinet’s proposed allocation of one per cent of GDP to research.

Mr Osafo-Maafo said: “The government has approved and awaiting final approval from parliament to make sure that our annual budget sets aside one per cent of GDP for research…

“The country will go nowhere if we do not accept science as the base of our development because that is the future direction of the whole world’s development.

“Now that we’ve doubled the expenditure on research, some of us also want to also see accelerated research results from you for this country.”
