Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has noted that the Akufo-Addo administration is considering setting up a cement factory at Gbandaa, near Nalerigu, in the East Mamprusi district of the Northern Region.
He said the limestone resource offered by Gbandaa would make it a perfect location for the siting of a cement plant under the governing New Patriotic Party’s One District One Factory promised during the 2016 election campaign.
Dr Bawumia gave the assurance at the palace of the Mamprugu Nayiri, Mahami Bohagu, during a courtesy call on Saturday May 20 on day three of his four-day tour of the Northern Region.
“There is a particular resource which is here, which is limestone deposits in Gbandaa, and we hope that we can make it a factory for the production of cement and we are going to try to get investors to look at that as part of our One District One Factory initiative,” he said.
He also disclosed that “discussions” had already begun on the “critical matter” of town roads, with the Nalerigu-Gambaga road expected to be completed by 2018.
The Vice President reiterated that the government has slashed the price of fertilisers by 50 per cent as it seeks to boost agricultural production, while adding that Free Senior High School and the payment of teacher and nurse training allowances will both take off in September 2017
