Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said funding for 10 landing sites to be built along the coastal belt has been secured and works shall begin soon.
The locations for the landing sites include Teshie in the Greater Accra Region, Axim and Dixcove in the Western Region; Elmina, Winneba, Mumford, Senya-Bereku, Fetteh-Gomoa and Moree in the Central Region; and Keta in the Volta Region.
Dr Bawumia disclosed this when he joined Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, Paramount Chief of Edina, and the people of the area to celebrate the 2019 Edina Bakatue Festival in Elmina on Saturday, 6 July 2019.
Dr Bawumia noted that as the people of Elmina celebrate Bakatue to symbolise the beginning of the fishing season, the government will continue to initiate policies and roll out programmes that will make fishing less tedious and more profitable.
He assured the people that the first phase of the ongoing Elmina Heritage Bay project with enhanced durbar grounds and a reverential garden under construction shall be completed to promote tourism adding that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will continue to bring development to the doorsteps of the people of Elmina.
