11th Ghana Property Awards held in Accra

Some industry players in the country’s real estate, property and construction sector have been celebrated at this year’s Ghana Property Awards for their outstanding contribution to the sector.

The annual event which is in its eleventh year was organised by the Property Express Group Limited with support from the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA) and the Ministry of Works and Housing.

Themed “Developing the economy through infrastructure”, the awards were categorized to recognise the efforts of both established and upcoming firms.

Topping the list with two awards each, Adom City Estates Company Limited walked away with Best Residential Developer – Lower Income and Young Real Estate Personality of the Year. Blackpark Limited also won the award for Furniture Company of the Year and Input/Home Accessories Suppliers of the Year. Artelier also went home with the award for Best Landscape Architectural Design of the Year and Best Architectural Design Firm of the Year.

Other winners at the event were GHL Bank which beat the Republic Bank and Stanbic Bank to win Best Mortgage Bank of the Year award. Best Residential Developer of the Year went to Mayfair Estates Limited with Residential Developer for the Year going to Rehoboth Properties Limited.

The Ghana Property Awards also recognised Darkuman Neighbourhood Watch Committee for its well-structured method of operation and awarded Okai Koi South sub metro as the Best Sub Metro for Enforcement of Sanitation Law.

Speaking at the event held at the World Trade Centre in Accra, Director of Ghana Property Awards, Irene Agyenkwa called on government to support the industry so the country can benefit from its contribution.



“The key to infrastructural development is financing. This award scheme wishes to express its concern over the fact that government still owes contractors for projects executed several fiscal years ago. Undoubtedly, this situation is contributory factor to the challenges in the financial sector, majority of which attribute to bad debt, with contractors being major culprits. We therefore urge the government to clear the bottlenecks and facilitate due payments.”

On her part, Deputy Minister for Works and Housing Freda Prempeh said her sector will soon submit the reviewed Bill for the Establishment of a Real Estate Agency. The Bill according to her, will provide for the training and licensing of estate brokers and require them to provide bonds as guarantees to operators in the property market.

It is a national award dedicated to celebrating excellence in Ghanaian Real Estate, Infrastructure Construction and service providers in the industry.

In addition to Awarding the Property Industry, the awards ceremony serves as a convergence platform for the Industry players. It further offers the platform for the Property Sector, particularly GREDA to address some concerns and channel its grievances and petitions to the Ministry of Housing.

Government also gets the opportunity to engage with developers at the Awards.
