A starch producing factory has been earmarked to be constructed at Kpassa in the Nkwanta North district of the Volta Region under government’s flagship industrialisation program, One District, One Factory.
This is to help avert the huge post harvest loss farmers experience in the district leading to the loss of thousands of hundreds of Ghana Cedis annually.
The phenomenon had also crippled the socio economic development of the area and impeded on the progress of these farmers who work tirelessly to produce for the country’s food basket.
Announcing the construction of the starch factory, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, asserted that the Nkwanta North District was strategically picked due to large quantity of tuber crops cultivated in the district.
He was optimistic the factory would play a role in reducing poverty level in the area and bring about some development by providing jobs for the residents.
The Paramount Chief of Kpassa Traditional Area, Ubor Tassan Konja V, who welcomed the news disclosed that a 3,000 acre land had already been made available for the one district, one factory program and pledged his support towards the establishment of the factory.
