2004 Ghana Club 100 awards held in Accra

Accra, Dec. 6, GNA - Scancom Ghana Limited was on Tuesday adjudged the first among the top 10 companies of the 2004 Ghana Club 100 (GC100), by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), the initiator of the GC100.

Other companies within the top 10 companies included Nestle Ghana Limited; Produce Buying Company (PBC); Fan Milk Limited; Dizengoff Ghana Limited; Taysec Construction Company; Guinness Ghana Limited; Prudential Bank; Interplast and Maersk Ghana Limited. President John Agyekum Kufuor presented them plaques at a luncheon in Accra.


The Ghana Club 100 Award is an initiative of the GIPC to acknowledge the best in terms of corporate governance. The criteria for selection included rate of growth, profitability and employment levels. The event in its seventh edition also saw Scancom emerging as the third most profitable company, and third fastest growing company in the country.


Other companies awarded for their rate of growth were Ghana Community Network Services Limited (GCNet) and the Amalgamated Bank Limited while the most profitable included Nestle Ghana Limited and Kasapreko Company Limited.


Dizengoff Ghana Limited new entrants to the club, was adjudged among the first 10.


Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City, congratulating the award winners of the GC100, urged the business community to invest in the tourism sector since it was the fastest growing sector all over the world.

He said with the country's stability and business friendly environment, Ghana was poised to become the conference centre for West Africa.


He asked for private investment in the hospitality industry because those who ventured into it would hardly express regret. Mr Alan Kyerematen, Minister of Trade and Industry, said the greatest achievement of the Government was the boosting of confidence in the private sector.


Mr Kwamena Bartels, Minister of Private Sector Development and President's Special Initiative urged the club members to serve as a magnet that would excite and attract the younger and smaller companies to strive to achieve what the members had achieved.


The 11th to 20th club members included Barclays Bank Ghana Limited; Olam Ghana Limited; Unique Trust; Trust Bank; Kasapreko Company Limited; Toyota Ghana Company Limited; Coca Cola Bottling Company Limited; Ghana Community Network Services (GCNet); Shell Ghana Limited and British American Tobacco Limited. 6 Dec 05
