2018 Market Women’s Day launched in Accra

Market Women’s Day Celebration-Ghana (MWDC-GH), the foundation responsible for organising the very successful Market Women’s Day Celebrations on Republic Day of 2017 has successfully launched this year’s event at a colourful ceremony held at Cleaver House, Barnes Road in Accra.

In attendance were close to a hundred of the prominent market, mostly from in and around the Greater Accra Region. This year’s celebrations is under the theme, “Our Market Women: Icons of Indigenous Ghanaian Entrepreneurship.”

In a welcome speech, Mr J. N. Halm, a Director of MWDC-GH, stated that the launch of this year’s event was in fulfilment of a commitment the organisation made to the market women of the country to celebrate them every single year. He stated that the theme for this year’s event was chosen to highlight the very important role market women have played in this country over the years.

Mr Halm implored all corporate bodies to take advantage of the sponsorship opportunities available to help make the event an annual success.

The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mrs Elizabeth Sackey, was the Special Guest of Honour. In a short speech before the official launch, the Deputy Minister congratulated all market women of Ghana for their continued hard work over the years.

She stated that market women have always been the backbone of the economy and as such were very important to the developmental aspirations of government. She stated that sanitation was dear to the government and therefore she was ready to support a sanitation drive by MWDC-GH in the various markets.

Also in attendance at the event were Management and staff of Star Microinsurance as well as Fast Track Capital Microfinance.

This year’s Market Women’s Day Celebrations is scheduled for 2nd July 2018 at the Efua Sutherland Park in Accra.
