President John Dramani Mahama has clarified that the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Policy is not merely about extended working hours, but a revolution in the way businesses and economic operations are conducted.

He explained that the policy is designed to enhance productivity and create opportunities for Ghanaians.

Speaking at the launch of the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development on July 2, 2025, the President said:

“The 24H+ agenda is not simply about extending working hours. It is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunity, and accelerating exports through well-structured, multi-sectoral, and inclusive interventions.”

President Mahama emphasised that the policy has the potential to revitalize Ghana’s business sector, spurring growth and national development.

He acknowledged that while implementing the programme will be challenging, it is not impossible.

He called on the private sector to actively support the government in making the policy a success.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is a call to national action. Distinguished guests, a new model of economic development, grounded in productivity, powered by the private sector, and coordinated by the state, is going to be unveiled.

"Our national strategy includes inclusive growth, export expansion, job creation, and structural transformation.

"We call on the private sector, labour unions, development partners, traditional authorities, the youth, and civil society to embrace this initiative,” he urged.

The 24-Hour Economy Policy is the government’s flagship programme and is expected to create jobs and employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
