The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has closed down 50 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) retail points across the country as part of efforts to avert gas explosions in the country as happened at Atomic Junction a few months ago.

CEO of the NPA, Hassan Tampuli says the 50 retail points were among 479 stations inspected and monitored by his office.

He said they were found to be operating below the required safety standards.

There are about 600 LPG retail points across the country.

The NPA says 27 more are likely to be shut down.
