Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said that the government of President Nana Akufo-Addo will award 70 per cent of contracts funded by the Ghanaian taxpayer to indigenous companies.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at making local contractors vibrant and highly competitive against their international counterparts.
In addition to this initiative, Dr Bawumia said government will re-orient contractors as it seeks to build a stronger economy.
In an audio recording played at a forum in Accra on Monday August 7, Dr Bawumia said: “The whole mindset will need to be re-oriented in building a strong economy.
“As far as government’s contracts are concerned, we are making sure that at least 70 per cent of taxpayer-funded contract are awarded to local entities and that will really help us in the Ghanaian ownership of the economy.
“You also want to build an economy that encourages investment,” Dr Bawumia added.
