African Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) is calling for the intensification of random sampling of petroleum products on the market to enable smuggled ones be extracted from the market with their sellers sanctioned.
ACEP submits that GHc1 million worth of petroleum products smuggled into the country were confiscated by state security showing how dangerous the thriving business is to revenue mobilization.
ACEP’s Executive Director, Benjamin Boakye stated Ghana’s fisher folks are increasingly engaging in the smuggling of petroleum products where discharges are done by larger vessels on sea whereupon the fisher folks ferry the products to the shore and clandestinely sell.
He said given the expansive shoreline of the country, it makes patrolling difficult but more resources had to be dedicated to curbing the growing menace which leads to broken down vehicles and extra cost of repair because of the poor fuel as well as eroding government’s revenge generation goals.
ACEP is made up of highly trained and competent team of experienced Energy Experts and Lawyers capable of offering innovative and pragmatic solutions to the challenges posed by the Energy Sector in Africa.
