Accra, April 2, GNA- Dr Richard Anane, Minister of Roads and Transport on Friday commended the African Development Bank (ADB) for its commitment and support for road infrastructure development in the country. He said Ghana has since 2001 received a loan of 100 million dollars from the Bank to develop the road sector throughout the country. ADB is also assisting Ghana in Institutional capacity building and other supports.

Dr Anane who said this when the ADB Transport Sector Manager, Mr Gilbert Mbesherubusa paid a courtesy call on him in his office said, "there are about eight on-going projects, which the sector is undertaking with the support from the Bank".

Mr Mbesherubusa is currently on a working visit to the project centres to appraise and review them. Mr Reginald Sherman, ADB Transport Sector Task Manager, accompanied him. Dr Anane mentioned the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, Akatsi-Akanu link to Nuepe, Akatsi-Aflao-Lome, Pantang-Mamfe, Nsawam-Apedwa, Apedwa-Bonso and Anyinam-Kintampo roads as those that the ADB was supporting Ghana.

The Apedwa-Bomso road, he said, was almost complete and would soon be opened, adding "the ADB is also helping Ghana to do studies on the Techiman-Kintampo-Axim-Elubo road in order to put it into shape." Mr Mbesherubusa said the ADB had about seven on-going operations for Ghana's road sector and it was necessary that they met regularly to review their cooperation. He said the ADB would be supportive of any project to bring cooperation between its partners and expressed the hope that after his one-week tour of the project sites he would be able to comment fully on Ghana's performance in this sector.
