Abidjan-Lagos corridor gets transport organization.

Tema, Aug. 30, GNA - A Sub-Regional Road Transport Organization has been formed along the Abidjan-Lagos corridor to facilitate free movement of goods and services.

Mr Kojo Adom Moses, First Vice President of the Organisation told the Ghana News Agency in Tema, that the organization was formed in Lome, Togo with Ghana, Cote D'Ivoire, Benin and Nigeria as member-countries. The organization made up of professional transporters and drivers was to promote good practices and behaviour among members as well as the prevention and management of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS along the corridor.

Mr Moses who is also Chairman of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council said the Organisation would also fight against hindrances to the free flow of traffic.

He said even though membership of the organization was voluntary, road transport unions and association operating along the Abidjan-Lagos corridor were expected to register to collectively defend their common interests.

Mr Mathias Hlomador from Togo is the President of the Organisation with Mr Agoli Agbo Pierre of Benin as Second Vice President. Dr Austin Ofulue of Nigeria is the Secretary Generaland Mr Troure Adama of Cote D'Ivoire as the General Treasurer.
