Accountants urge to help Government to achieve value for money

Koforidua, April 04, GNA- Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, on Friday challenged Accountants to always help Government to achieve value for money for all its transactions and dealings. In a speech read on his behalf at the inauguration of the Eastern Regional branch of the Chartered Certified Accountants Students' Association in Ghana (CCASSIG), in Koforidua, Mr Ofosu- Ampofo reminded Accountants that another area they could be of immense help is in the area of records keeping of transaction, especially by Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs).

He therefore urged student Accountants to come up with very simple recording procedures and also assist SMEs prepare and file their accounts/returns for tax purposes Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the need for sound financial management systems in both the public and private sectors of the economy could not be over-emphasized adding that government recognized the roles qualified Accountants play in achieving effective and efficient management of the country's scare resources.

He said it was in that light that government would create the enabling environment for bodies like the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to continue to train more qualified Accountants not only to help develop the country, but also reduce corrupt practices that hinders development. Mr Jeremiah Ewoniah, National CCASSIG Chairman, in a welcoming address, said currently the association had over 16,000 members. He said the ACCA is one of the fastest growing bodies world over adding that in Ghana the ACCA was one of the recognize Accountancy professional bodies which train quality and excellent Accountants. Mr Ewoniah said in both the public and private sectors of the economy, ACCA qualified and sub-qualified personnel were very dominant and contributing their quota in national development. 04 April 09
