Accra bourse index makes modest gains

Accra, Sept. 24, GNA - The GSE-All Share Index, the benchmark index of the Ghana Stock Exchange made a steep climb on Wednesday, rising a whopping 25.01 points, thanks to huge share price appreciation of the SSB Bank.

The index, which lost 7.2 points on Monday when Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) lost 500 cedis to push it down, rallied to close 2,624.77 points from 2,599.76 points at the previous session.

Change in the year to date stands at 88.11 per cent.

Shares traded registered a relative improvement in volumes to close up at 178,800 shares from 159,900 on Monday. In the broader market, there were eight price changes - seven positive and a negative.

SSB Bank gained 872 cedis to close at 10,002 cedis, British American Tobacco ended trading richer with 90 cedis at 2,700 shares and Unilever was up by 45 cedis at 8,950 cedis.

Other gainers were Fanmilk Limited, which was up two cedis at 3,166 cedis, Guinness Ghana Limited moved up two cedis at 4,004, Metalloplastica Ghana Limited was up one cedi at 271 cedis and Mechanical Lloyd went up one cedi at 663 cedis.

Aluworks was the only loser for the session, shedding 200 cedis to close at 3,800 cedis.

Market capitalization was up at 10,258.34 billion cedis from 10,195.18 billion cedis on Monday.
