Josephine Anan Ankomah, the wife of popular lawyer Ace Anan Ankomah, is reportedly set to be appointed as the second deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
The B&FT reports that Mrs Anan Ankomah is set to replace Dr. Johnson P. Asiama, who resigned from the position on his own accord.
Dr. Asiama was appointed as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank by the erstwhile John Mahama-led administration.
However, the astute economist reportedly tendered in his resignation from the post on the last working day of 2017.
Reports from certain quarters suggest that Dr. Asiama’s resignation was fuelled by moves by the ruling government to oust him from office after he was initially asked to take a mandatory 10-day leave towards the end of last year.
The B&FT further reports that government has already shortlisted two persons as possible occupants of the now vacant position of 2nd Deputy Governor of the BoG.
Among the two is Mrs Josephine Anan Ankomah, who is believed to be leading the race to replace Dr. Asiama.
The other candidate is currently anonymous; however, government is expected to announce its decision in the coming days on who becomes the new 2nd Deputy Governor of the Central Bank.
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has already replaced the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his first Deputy, with Dr. Asiama’s resignation set to complete a complete overhaul at the hierarchy of the BoG.
