Critical Thinkers International (CTI), a pressure group, has indicated that the activities of vigilante group, Delta Force, if not checked, would hamper efforts by the current Akufo-Addo administration to woo investors into the country.

In a recent statement issued in Accra titled: ‘Menace by the Delta Force and others: A doom for Ghana if not tackled,’ and signed by Adiepena Mirekua Sarpong, the group urged the President to take action against members of the vigilante groups.

“The recent attacks and disrespect for the Executive and the Judiciary in the Ashanti Region is not only sad and disrespectful, but also very barbaric, and a huge dent on the image of Asanteman and Ghana in general.”

CTI indicated that many investors were complaining about the activities of the vigilante groups.

The Delta Force recently stormed a Circuit Court in Kumasi where some of their members were standing trial for attacking a public official.

They allegedly vandalized the court and succeeded in freeing their members.

CTI said the attacks were injurious to the state.

“The reason why there is very low investor confidence in countries like Syria, Sudan, Somalia and some parts of Nigeria, among others, is because of the security threat mostly caused by some rebels and militants. If left unchecked, a similar thing could happen in Ghana.

“Nana Addo started with a high investor confidence after his electoral victory due to his manifesto promises, and it further increased after the 2017 Budget presentation in Parliament by his Finance Minister. This has all been evidenced by the huge number of investors trooping into the country plus the reduction of the base rate, inflation and the appreciation of the Cedi,” it noted.

The group warned that the investor confidence and the goodwill the government was enjoying would diminish if the activities of the Delta Force and the other vigilante groups are not tackled.

It further blamed the Police Service for the development, saying “the Police Service has been found to be very weak after the election of the President, and the Ashanti Regional Police Command has been the weakest.”
