Active but low volume trading on GSE

Accra, Sept 3, Trading was slightly active on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) on Wednesday but on low volume with six price changes, four gainers and two losers. Impressive showing by the industrial equities sector pushed the mark et index up marginally by 1.33 points to 4.78 points, up from 419 points a t the last session. Total market capitalization climbed to 2,840.61 billion cedis from the 2,838.65 billion registered on Monday. Dealers said the continued upward movement of the market has vindicated the renewed confidence of investors based on a relatively stabilizing value of the cedi against the major currencies. But volume of shares changing hands closed low at 118,400 compared t o the 1.54 million cedis last Monday, pushed by bulk purchase in Pioneer Tobacco Company (PTC) which sold 850,000 shares. Typical of the market trend of late, demand for shares closed on a hefty 6.8 million against a meagre offer of 778.050. On the trading floor, Aluworks Company (ALW) led the pack of gainers with 70 cedis up to 1,470 cedis, followed by PZ, up to cedis to 330 cedis. The remaining gainers were Mechanical Lloyd Company (MLC), up seven cedis to 187 cedis, and Guinness Ghana Limited (GGL), five cedis up to 385 cedis. On the downward side, Metalloplastica Ghana Limited (MGL) was five cedis down to 175 cedis while UNILEVER (UNIL) also dipped four cedis to 954 cedis. The rest of the equities maintained their last closing prices. The following are the last prices of listed equities quoted in cedis:
