Adamus reacts to Nkroful relocation uproar

The Management of Adamus Resources Limited, a subsidiary of Endeavour Mining Corporation of Canada has responded to allegations raised by the chief of Nkroful that the company’s operations pose a threat to the people in the community.

Adamus says it has no intention to relocate the entire community from the birth place of Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as it has been alleged. It also denied media reports that the lands of Nkroful were being degraded and polluted by the mining firm.

The Company’s Vice President in charge of Sustainability, Mark Addo maintained, in a press statement that the company recognizes the importance of the cultural and historical heritage of Nkroful and the people of Nzema and therefore has no intention of relocating the entire community.

He said the company is currently not engaged in any form of exploration or mining in or around Nkroful.

“The Company respects the connection that local people have to traditional lands where they live and use for their livelihood and thus works to develop strong relationships with local communities and work with them in partnerships toward sustainable development”, the statement added.

At a recent press conference held by the Chiefs of Nkroful in the area accused Adamus of using all means to relocate the community. The group also accused the company of conniving with the Western Regional Coordinating Council and National Security to deprive the community of its natural rights.

However, the company maintained that it adheres to strict and responsible environmental management systems with proven safe guard systems that are monitored and evaluated by key regulatory bodies including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Minerals Commission.
