Adansi Trade Associations agree to pay their taxes

Members of various trade associations in the Adansi North and Adansi-Asokwa Districts, have agreed to honour their tax obligations promptly.

The move would enable their respective Assemblies to generate enough revenue to accelerate the implementation of development projects in their communities.

They however, stressed the need for the Assemblies to involve them in the processes of fixing the fees and levies, as it would ensure transparency, accountability and mutual understanding.

The members stated this at a stakeholders' meeting organised by the Adansi Progressive Poultry Farmers Association (APROPFA), receiving collaborative funding from the BUSAC FUND, DANIDA and USAID.

It was part of APROPFA advocacy project aimed at engaging district assemblies to adopt proper procedures in their fee-fixing engagements.

The goal was to create a common platform for the two District Assemblies and the trades associations to discuss the fee-fixing mandate and procedures of the assemblies, as well as other issues related to revenue mobilization.

The trade associations have over the years expressed concern about the lack of consultation in the fixing of fees and levies by the district assemblies, which had sometimes, resulted in confrontations and agitations.

Mr Ramzi Alhassan, District Budget Officer for Adansi North said, it was important for the Assemblies to recognise the role of key stakeholders in the fixing of fees to ensure prompt payments.

Mr. Emmanuel Amoakohene, the District Development Planning Officer bemoaned the poor state of revenue generation in the District and said that was affecting the implementation of development projects in the area.

Alhaji Fuseini Adams Kanyiti, Vice Chairman of the Adansi Progressive Poultry Farmers Association, appealed to the members of the various trades associations to pay their taxes to support the assemblies to generate the expected revenue for development.
