A cashew farmer at Jenjemireja in the Jaman South District of the Brong-Ahafo Region has appealed to the Government to incorporate cashew production in the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) Project.
The farmer, Prophet Daniel Ansu, who is also in-charge of local Gethsemane Prayer Centre, said that would enhance higher productivity of the cash crop.
Prophet Ansu, owner of Jenjemireja-based ‘Eye Awurade Farms’ Limited, made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
He noted that Cashew production thrived well in the Savannah Zones as many farmers were into its production in Techiman, Wenchi and Jaman North and South Districts in Brong-Ahafo.
The farmer expressed optimism that any pragmatic step by Government to encourage the production of cashew in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions would be of immense benefit to the country.
Prophet Ansu, twice Jaman south District Best Farmer, urged government to announce a stipulated purchasing prize of the crop, like Cocoa, to encourage more farmers to grow cashew.
Mr. Ansu stated that apart from the economic benefit to be gained by the individual farmers, the fruits could be used to manufacture beverages whilst the nuts can be used as food supplements.
