Mr George Sefah-Boateng, Health, Safety and Environment Manager of Air Liquide(AL) Ghana Limited, has appealed to clients of the company’s products to uphold safety standards as accidents could result in high fatalities.

“Under no circumstance should safety standards be breached knowing well these industrial cylinders are highly inflammable,” he said.

Mr Sefah-Boateng said this at a safety outreach programme for clients of the company at Hohoe on Wednesday.

He said the company had set aside March as its corporate safety month to reach out to its clientele to impart knowledge on best practices.

Mr Sefah-Boateng reminded welders on the risk associated with oxygen and oily substance that could cause fire and explosion and said “Compromise on wearing safety gadgets is as risky as causing suicide.”

He said AL industrial cylinders are pressured at 150 bar measurement largely, different from the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at 10 bar levels and this demands high safety standards.

Mr Stanislaus Domingo, Hohoe Agent of Air Liquide said periodic visits to clients have done a great deal towards upholding maintenance culture, contributing to the incident-free industrial atmosphere.

Participants were taken through proper handling of gas cylinders, maintenance culture, dangers of unauthorised refilling of Air Liquide cylinders, safety hazards in arc and gas welding.**
