Some domestic airlines have begun making alternative arrangements to cater for their clients in case of a shutdown of the Kumasi Airport.

The airport was last month closed down temporarily to enable repair works on the runway after it developed some defects, causing an unpleasant situation for patrons.

JOYBUSINESS has however learnt that the facility is likely to be closed down again for refurbishment which will include the expansion of the terminal as well as resurfacing and extension of the runway.

The work is estimated to cost some 58 million cedis.

Speaking in an interview with JOYBUSINESS, Chief Executive of Starbow, Brooke Freison said they welcome every effort to upgrade of the airport.

“We look forward to Kumasi airport being upgraded, and not only the runway but we desperately need landing lights so that the airport can be opened in the evening.

“The terminal needs some enhancement as well, so we welcome every upgrade of the Kumasi airport…”

Mr Freison said despite the high cost of aviation fuel, the company is working to surmount every challenge.
