Airtel Ghana’s Lucy Quist bags two prestigious awards

Adding on to her many accolades, current CIMG Marketing Woman and Telecom CEO of the year, Lucy Quist, has been named the Corporate Personality of the year together with several distinguished women at the maiden Ghana Women of the Year Honours held in Accra.

The transformational business leader and Managing Director of Airtel Ghana was honoured for her excellence in Corporate Responsibility, as one of the few business leaders who passionately use their position and experience to positively influence and mentor the next generation of leaders.

Over the years, this determined leader has keenly participated in events such as the She Leads Africa SheHive Accra, the Annual Wharton Africa Business Forum, Ericson’s International Women’s Day Celebration and many other mentoring events which seek to inspire and prepare the next generation to take up leadership roles.

She has also started initiatives to inspire both young and old to pursue their dreams fearlessly. Together with five other high-flying female CEOs in the country, Lucy Quist co-founded the Executive Women’s Network to inspire, empower and support women executives to be successful and influential both at the local and international levels.

Lucy launched and passionately leads Airtel Ghana’s Evolve with STEM initiative, at the back of her award as CIMG Woman of the year, to inspire belief, empower and change mindsets of young people towards Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Since the launch Evolve with STEM initiative has impacted more than 1,000 pupils and inspired many Ghanaians and institutions to take action and launch similar initiatives targeted at promoting STEM.

Lucy also serves on Boards of institutions dedicated to empowering young people such as the Industry Advisory Board for Ashesi University and the Exploratory – an initiative of the African Women Advocacy Project to empower young girls in STEM.

Her honorary citation partly read, “Lucy is acclaimed for her selfless drive to mentor the next generation of leaders to create sustainable outcomes. Her commitment and devotion to mentoring young people on several platforms can be seen in her very successful launch of Evolve with STEM – an initiative to transform mindsets and inspire young people to embrace Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.”

The prestigious gala night held at the Banquet Hall, State House celebrated “the mavericks, the enduring souls, the tenacious sisters, the standard bearers,” of the Ghanaian female populace organisers said in a statement.

Accepting the award, Lucy Quist expressed her appreciation to God, her family and the organizers of the awards.

She urged females to reject certain stereotypes that are associated with them and rather focus on supporting and impacting each other, adding, “I am not only honoured by this award but I am challenged to do more to help people realize their full potential, and I invite all here to join me on this journey.”

Lucy is an international business leader and a trail blazer in the telecommunications industry who has received local and international recognition.

She dreams that one day Ghana will become the technology hub of Africa, transforming healthcare and education through innovation and technology.

She also dreams of a coming generation of resourceful individuals that will accelerate development of the continent with technology and innovation.

On the same night she was awarded with the Corporate Personality Award organised by Glitz Africa, Lucy was also adjudged the Telecom CEO of the year – the highest accolade for any telecom CEO in Ghana at the Ghana ICT and Telecom Awards organised by InstinctWave for her inspirational leadership that has transformed Airtel Ghana into the fastest growing telecom company and the best data and internet services provider in Ghana.
