Airtel Ghana signs MoU with Ministry of Education

Accra, Dec. 17, GNA - The management of Airtel Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Education to suppo= rt the Community Social Responsibility Initiative.

The management of Airtel has initiated "School Adoption Programme" under which it would adopt some deprived schools in rural areas for reconstruction and renovation in addition to the provision of teaching ai= ds and furniture.

In addition, it would provide school uniforms and shoes for the pupi= ls, equip the school's library and supplement income of teachers. A statement issued in Accra on Friday and copied to Ghana News Agenc= y said, Mr Philip Sowah, Managing Director of Airtel Ghana signed on behalf= of the company, while Mr Alex Tetteh-Enyo, Minister of Education signed on behalf of the Ministry.

It said the pilot project would begin with Himankrom Methodist Prima= ry School in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region. It is a school which served four communities with poor infrastructur= e and a lack of adequate educational facilities . Mr Tetteh-Enyo commended the management for the initiative, adding "= We thank you for focusing on education as the flagship project under the company's corporate social responsibility policy." Mr Sowah said Ghana had a conducive atmosphere for learning and the company's commitment under the project was to assist many rural areas in the country. He explained that the project reflected the philosophy of Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic wing of Bharti Group of Companies, which sought to make quality education accessible to vulnerable children. 17 Dec. 10
