Building on its foundation as the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Company for Education, Airtel Ghana has supported the 2015 edition of the Business Cup Challenge, an initiative by Lancaster University Ghana with a cash donation.

The Business Cup Challenge is an annual inter-school business competition that invites secondary schools in Ghana and Nigeria to pitch their business ideas and compete for prizes.

It is also a business development platform on which highly successful business men and women share experiences and information with the students.

The 2015 edition encouraged students to review and implement real life business plans, analyse critical business scenarios and present their cases to an academic panel headed by Professor John Grainger, Provost of Lancaster University Ghana.

Hannah Agbozo, Legal & Corporate Affairs Director, Airtel Ghana, commenting on the sponsorship noted, “This is certainly an initiative that has a connection with Airtel Ghana’s CSR pillar in enterprise development and education which, focuses on unearthing the power of potential in individuals and communities to transform and enrich lives in the communities we operate”.

“Being part of this initiative is something that we believe will offer these young students the opportunity to work as a team in a competitive environment. It will also help develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills,” she explained.

The six-week competition began on 5th October, 2015 and ended on 14th, November 2014 with Wesley Girls Senior High School taking home the ultimate trophy, Soul Clinic International School (SCI Business 2) and Roman Ridge School (Roman Ridge 2) also finishing strong, winning 1st and 2nd runner up titles respectively.

This year’s competition was intense with over 120 teams from over 30 schools battling it out to the top. Teams were awarded scores according to the set criteria by the panel with each team consisting of 4-5 students.

Airtel Ghana was recently recognized at the Ghana CSR Excellence Awards as the Best CSR Company for Education for being the leader in promoting educational standards and infrastructural developments in communities across the country.
