Akufo-Addo appoints Ken Ofori-Atta's former special assistant as CEO of MiDA

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Michael Asare Bediako to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA).

Bediako, a former Special Assistant and Technical Advisor to the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been appointed in accordance with Article 195 (1) of the Constitution and Section 15 (2) of the Millennium Development Authority Act, 2006 (Act 702).

According to a report by asaaseradio.com, Bediako's appointment was conveyed in a letter dated September 12, 2024, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, and copied to the Vice President, Chief of Staff, Minister for Finance, and Minister for Food and Agriculture.

The appointment letter was also shared with the Minister for Trade and Industry, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, and the Board Chairperson of the Millennium Development Authority.

The letter stated, "Your appointment is for a period of four (4) years, effective September 11, 2024. Kindly indicate your acceptance or otherwise of this appointment within 14 days of receipt of this letter. I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your appointment. Please accept the President's best wishes."

Michael Asare Bediako holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, an MSc in International Finance from the University of Amsterdam Business School, a B.A. in Law and International Relations, and an LLM in Corporate and Commercial law from Maastricht University in The Netherlands.

He has held various roles, including serving as a Special Assistant and Technical Advisor to the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, from 2017 to 2021.

Bediako has also been a Board Member of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Advisory Board in Ghana and chairperson of the Board at the Ghana Heritage Foundation (GHF) in Worcester, USA.

Additionally, Michael Bediako has served as CEO of Africa Firm LLC in Accra, Ghana, as a guest lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law (Part-time) in Accra, Ghana, and as a Senior Policy Advisor at the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), among other positions.

As CEO of MiDA, Bediako is tasked with managing national development programs funded by the government, development partners, or both.

MiDA's expanded mandate includes overseeing and managing large-scale development programs beyond the Millennium Challenge Compacts.
