A former key player in Ghana’s upstream oil and gas business, Mr. Alex Mould has disclaimed misinformation shared to the general public by a close associate of the President of Ghana and an influencer in the industry as a “blatant untruth not supported by facts.”
Gabby Otchere-Darko, a nephew to the president who is assumed to be an influencer in Ghana’s oil and gas industry has shared via his social media pages that, “More discoveries in Ghana under NPP. First Kuffour. Now Akuffo Addo. Remember: zero under NDC for all 16 years! The new AGM petroleum agreement got a lot of bashing…”
However, according to Ghana’s oil and gas history, the TEN oilfield which consist of three wells Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme were discovered in the tenure of late Prof Atta Mills NDC led-administration. “TEN partners led by Tullow Ghana and also Hess, which is now sold to Aker energy, discovered oil in NDC time”, the Former Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Boss in the erstwhile NDC administration clarified in a post on his Facebook page.
Tweneboa was discovered in March 2009, Enyenra in June 2010 and Ntomme in January 2011.
GNPC has been the national representative in all oil and gas exploration, development and production contracts. Hence given Mr. Moulds former position as the head of the organization it suggests how well informed he is; having been the lead advisor to GoG on all oil and gas contracts and management.
He stressed further when reacting to Mr. Gabby’s misrepresentation that “more important than a discovery is how to bring a Development to fruition. A discovery does not automatically lead to first oil (production)”.
And also clarified that “It was in NDC governments that approval of the Plan of Development was given, and all 3 fields - Jubilee, TEN, and SGN (Sankofa Gye Nyame) - were developed…Once again it’s sad to see an orchestrated attempt by someone trying to distort history just for the sake of politics and to justify the State Capture going on in Ghana’s Oil and Gas Industry.”
Mr Mould, has been a constant advocate for transparency and accountability within the sector.
And, having continuously voiced concerns about the current mishaps within the oil and gas industry, indicated his displeasure with Mr. Gabby Otchere-Darko’s claims by stating “Shame to him; once again trying to maliciously twist history - like some are trying to do to Kwame Nkrumah’s in his role as Ghana’s - and one of Africa’s - champion for independence.”
