On March 19, 1962, the All-African Farmers' Union was officially launched in a historic event held in Accra, Ghana.
Delegates from several African nations convened under the direction of Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah, to establish a single council of farmers.
This seminar was held at the renowned Farmer's House in Accra.
The Union was founded to support farmers' interests, solve issues they encountered, and promote agricultural growth throughout Africa.
Through collaborations, training, and participation at the regional, continental, and international levels, it sought to increase farmers' capability.
The organization also sought to end poverty and provide food security by implementing sensible rural development policies.
However, little information about its current state or continuous operations has been available over time. The union doesn't seem to be as active or well-known as it formerly was.
These days, some other organizations and initiatives, like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), which aim to increase agricultural productivity, food security, and economic development throughout the continent, frequently address the difficulties faced by African agriculture.
During his presidency, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah initiated several factories, agencies, and unions to boost manufacturing and export opportunities for the country.
His goal was to ensure Ghana attained a sustainable middle-income status and became self-sufficient.
However, many of these factories have either become defunct or left to deteriorate as a result of mismanagement, financial constraints, among other issues.
Some of these factories include Akosombo Textiles Limited, the Aboso Glass Factory, the Bonsa Tyre Factory, the GIHOC Fibre Products Company, and the Wenchi Tomato Factory.
