AngloGold Ltd said on Tuesday it had made good progress in talks to buy Ghana-based Ashanti Goldfields and that a deal would come very soon.
"We would hope that we are talking about a matter of days rather than anything else," Kelvin Williams, AngloGold's executive director-marketing told Reuters on the sidelines of a gold conference in Lisbon.
Williams said rumours of a competing bid for Ashanti by Randgold Resources had caused some misunderstanding. He doubted that Randgold could match AngloGold's offer.
